Disclaimer: I received an e-copy of this book as part of the YA Bound Book Blitz.

Fire in Frost is a new book by Alicia Rades and is a story about a girl named Crystal who discovers she has special abilities- ones that allow her to see and communicate with the dead. When the ghost of a former classmate appears in front of Crystal and asks for her help with a friend, Crystal goes on an adventure to save a friendship and a life.

I was able to read this book in a few short hours and I really enjoyed that the book flowed easily from one page to the next. The author had a clear story to tell and she was able to string together each word that made the book very easy to follow and understand. As far as the characters, I felt like they could have done with a bit more development, especially Crystal as she was the main character. I wasn't able to really connect with any of the characters in the story, but that was okay with me as it didn't really ruin my experience with the book as a whole.

The story was definitely not what I expected, and that has resulted in a rather neutral feeling towards this book. I liked the idea of Crystal's powers being more realistic than I imagined, but the fact that she started spilling her "secret" to anyone that would listen really bothered me. Her mother emphasized multiple times that it was important to keep quiet about her abilities and yet she blabbed to at least four people about it. I just feel like that was a little plot hole that should have been looked at and thought about a little bit more.

The plot of the story, and the reason that Crystal sees the ghost of Olivia, was a little darker than I would have thought it would be. I won't go into to much detail for those that haven't read it, but I do advise that you read with caution if abuse in a relationship is sensitive material or a possible trigger.

All in all, I feel like this was a successful book, even if it wasn't exactly my absolute favorite that I've ever read. I enjoyed the writing style of Alicia Rades and would definitely read more of her work! Crystal and her friends were fun to read about and I do hope that there will be a second book so that I get a chance to read more about Crystal and her developing powers more! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of the paranormal and YA books!
